IVY - THE SOCIAL UNIVERSITY
I joined IVY in November of 2016. IVY was founded by Beri Meric & Philipp Triebel who met while at Harvard Business School. This is an organization filled with diverse, curious & intelligent people who can work together to make the world a better place. I was intrigued by the organization from the moment I learned of it. After graduating college, it can be challenging to attend lectures and interact with people of different disciplines unless you actively seek this out. I joined in order to gain exposure to topics I didn't know much about, meet new people and continue discovering all that New York City has to offer. I use the IVY app, which is the perfect way to discover upcoming events and easily RSVP. There is usually an event everyday, and sometimes more than one! Events usually begin with a social component with the opportunity to meet IVY members, followed by a learning aspect, and close with another social section where you can continue to meet members and discuss the event. Some examples of industries that IVY events cover are: science, arts, culture, policy, finance, fashion and entrepreneurship.
Since joining, I have attended many events, met interesting people and continued to shape my worldview. Friends of mine in other cities have joined IVY, and what's so neat is that you get global access so when you're traveling you can attend IVY events in that city. IVY cultivates a community of potential new friends, new jobs or a significant other. A successful career is all about connections, and you never know where meeting the right person will lead you, whether it's immediate or in the future.
Examples of events include:
- Ideas Night featuring a conversation with an entrepreneur or leader in an industry about their work and career path
- Culture Night where IVY partners with art institutions and creates a special evening where you attend a play, ballet, etc with special pre and post show events
- IVY Galas & New Member Happy Hours are a really great way to mix and mingle with other IVY members. I enjoy catching up with members I've already met and I make sure to meet at least one (hopefully more!) new person
- Private Art Tours where the curator of the exhibition walks you through explaining the importance of each piece and the process of putting it together
IVY Getaways where they organize the whole trip to places like Cuba, Nicaragua, Morocco
And so much more!!
