Okay with alone time

Okay with alone time

Being alone is an interesting experience. It's only reality that over the course of your life, you will not spend every second with someone else. This could happen when moving to a new city, your roommates go out of town, you have a staycation over a holiday weekend, etc. I never noticed it before because growing up & in college you're frequently around friends or family. Once you graduate and move to a city, sometimes everyone is busy. Learning to be okay with alone time is important. After my breakup, I saw an expanse of time and an empty calendar. Therefore, I made lots of plans and scheduled friends & family to visit. However, there were still weekends when most people were away and I had to find ways to fill the time. Starting my blog has been a HUGE help because it is such an escape for me. I can spend all weekend writing blog posts and not feel lonely. Spending time alone doesn't mean no one loves or cares about you. It's just that they are in other parts of the world, but are still thinking about you. Getting to a place where you are comfortable with who you are and what you like to do is necessary; and goes along with loving yourself before you can love someone else. The work week can be really intense, and it's refreshing to spend time recharging. Be grateful for this time, because when you're tired and life is hectic, you'll be longing for it!

Some examples of activities to do alone are:

  • Watch a movie you've been wanting to see
  • Have a spa day giving yourself a manicure, doing a mask, etc.
  • Read a book or catch up on magazines
  • Go to a movie or museum exhibit you've been wanting to see
  • Explore a new area
  • Go to a paint & sip class
  • Try out a coffee shop you haven't been to
  • Think about all the things you are thankful for
  • Exercise
  • Organize your room
  • Clean
  • Plan your outfits for the coming week
  • Plan an upcoming trip
